40K: Spreadsheet Template for Codex: Dark Eldar

Have you ever worked at something, and reworked it, and reworked it - only to suddenly have an idea that would have saved you a lot of time and effort if you'd thought of it before you started?

I think you can see where this is going.

All future versions of my spreadsheets will include every Universal Special Rule (USR) listed in the core rulebook, not just the ones that appear in the codex. This will prevent me from stumbling across one mention of USR that I missed and having to renumber all the references in the army list.

Additionally, I decided to get my screenshots done before entering in all the descriptions.

As with the Ork and Blood Angel Codices before, these templates are Open Office spreadsheets. Screenshots follow the link below:

In the same vein as the Ork Spreadsheet, here is the Open Office template for the 2010 Blood Angels codex. It's got all the entries and rules referenced (that wouldn't get me sued) across four sheets - divided into the following sections: Codex, Equipment, Weapons, and Reference.

I tried my best to get a whole sheet on a single page. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pages print well in landscape format, while the 1st page best fits the portrait orientation.

Updated Spreadsheet Template for Codex: Orks (version 1.3)

I went back through the Codex, cross-referencing it with the spreadsheet and found out that I had neglected to add in some wargear - mainly for the named characters.  The link on the original post has been updated, as well.

I'm done with Army Builder.  I continued to use version 2.2 for my Dark Eldar army lists as long as I could, but now that the new codex has been announced, I no longer need it.  And, thanks to their asinine licensing scheme, I no longer want anything to do with the software.

Unfortunately, there are no really good open-source alternatives out there for generating an army list.  Until there is (don't look at me, I've got enough on my plate to last me a pretty good while), I have decided to put my 5th edition codices into a spreadsheet.

Using Open Office, I've developed a template that will accommodate the entire army list - including weapons, wargear, and rules (complete with page numbers).  The goal was to find a way to represent as much, if not more, data than Army Builder provided.  Additionally, I wanted to try and get the entire list on a single sheet of paper - stats and point costs on one side, wargear and rules on the other.

The Wargear and Special Rules use a simple code reference system to save space.  It's not quite as useful as actually having it spelled out for you on the paper, but I'm of the opinion that it's more for a opponent's reference, since a player should already know what special rules affect his army.

The first list to be finished are the Orks. I will make this template available with as much information as I can legally include. Stats, details and point costs will have to be filled out on your own.  The vast majority of the work was in getting developing the layout, though, so entering numbers goes pretty quickly. 

Give it a whirl and let me know if it works as a tool for army building, if there are any errors I missed, or what changes might enhance its usefulness. Enjoy!

DnD: Encounter Quick Reference - First Draft

Here is my first stab at an Encounter Quick Reference Sheet done in the same vein as the editable & printer-friendly Skill Challenge Tracker. The intent is to make this into an editable pdf file, but before I start adding input fields, I need to finalize exactly what's going to show up and where.

I envision this as an aid to building encounters, but also helping streamline their execution when the PC's are wailing on the monsters - the DM can just glance down at the various defenses and tell if it was hit or not instead of having to look each one up.

Feedback is not only welcome, but encouraged for this one!
